The writer was appointed as President and CEO at Reliance Industries Limited (India's largest private sector company) in the Chairman's Office to spearhead growth in New Ventures in April 2011. His vast knowledge and experience as a global business leader are enabling global partnerships that bring critical key technologies to India. In August 2011, he has also been appointed as Distinguished Fellow at India's Premier think tank Observer Research Foundation. In April 2012, he has been appointed as Chairman of the Indo-US Strategic Dialogue by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. Vivek was appointed as Vice President and Country Head, Boeing Defense Space & Security in May 2007. Vivek brought significant India market and customer insights, which helped address the emerging needs of India. He led a team to conclude the path breaking and largest ever US-India defense deals for C17 strategic lift, P-8I Anti-submarine warfare aircraft and Harpoon Missiles. He oversaw multiple campaigns as well as pan India strategic industrial tie-ups. Vivek had also served as Managing Director of Boeing Commercial Airplanes in India. During his tenure, the largest ever commercial airplane order in Indian aviation history by the Government of India was finalised. He also served as the founding Co-Chair of the US-India Aviation Cooperation Program launched by Norman Mineta in 2005.

Vivek has held numerous leadership roles in marketing and engineering at Boeing in the United States including manager in the Airplane Performance and Propulsion group. Prior to Boeing he worked for Raytheon and with NASA Ames Research Center in various multidisciplinary engineering fields. He also worked as an adjunct faculty member at Embry-Riddle, McConnell Air Force Base while working at Raytheon. He taught classes in aerodynamics and propulsion for aircraft and spacecraft to US Air Force and Boeing personnel.

Vivek earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Carleton University in Canada and a Masters of Aeronautical Engineering degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida. He also has his Ph D in Aerospace Engineering from Wichita State University in Kansas and his MBA from City University in Washington. He has also completed management and executive courses at the American Management Association in Washington DC and the Boeing Leadership Center in St Louis.

Vivek has been the recipient of several honors, including the 2008 OCA National Asian Pacific American Corporate Achievement Award. He has also received a gold medal from Cambridge (UK) for his scientific contributions to the field of aerospace and has been cited in Who's Who several times. He is in the Sigma Gamma Tau Aerospace Honor Society as well as the Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society. He was President of the Mathematical Association of America and is a member of various engineering and management societies in the US. He has authored over thirty articles in various journals. He was also trained as a private pilot at the Phoenix International Flight Training Center. Vivek served as Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). Further, he served as the Chairman, Defence Equipment Committee, AMCHAM and is on the panel of the FICCI Defense Task force. Vivek had the distinct honor of representing 2,500 companies as Regional President of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, the only US-India bilateral chamber.
