Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri Najeeb Jung as a Chief guest decorated the gallant officer and men of BSF on the occasion of 12th BSF Investiture Ceremony 2014

On 22nd May 2014, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri Najeeb Jung as a Chief Guest decorated the 10 BSF Men with Police Medals for Gallantry, and decorated 21 BSF Officers and men with Police Medals for Meritorious Service on the occasion of 12th BSF Investiture Ceremony which was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Sh Nehchal Sandhu, Dy NSA, Senior Officers from MHA, DsG and Senior Officers of other CAPFs, BSF Officers and men, Retired BSF DsG, IsG, family members of the martyrs and families of the force were present on the occasion.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Delhi Shri Najeeb Jung, the Chief Guest on the occasion said that he feel privilege to be here during his auspicious occasion of Investiture Ceremony and Rustamji Memorial Lecture – 2014 and take this unique opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude & tribute to late Shri Rustamji and other officers whose pioneering efforts were instrumental in the raising and growth of this great Force. Sh. Jung  lauded the role of BSF in Border Management & Anti Naxal Operations. He stated that the force has become people friendly and also commended the BSF role during massive and wide natural calamity caused in Uttarakhand and he also stated about sports and adventure activities of BSF and he congratulated five times Mount Everest climber Shri Love Raj Singh Dharmshaktu, Assistant Commandant of BSF for receiving the ‘Padma Shri’ in 2014. Hon’ble LG expressed his happiness that 1st batch of women officers is also shortly going to join BSF. He said that ‘bravery and devotion to duty displayed by the women cadres of the Force is unparallel and I hope that women will find increasing career opportunities in the BSF in future’.

 

On the occasion, Director General Border Security Force,  Shri D K Pathak also addressed a large audience which comprised of a number of retired BSF Officers and veterans as also siblings and close relatives of the first Director General Padma Vibhushan Late Shri K F Rustamji. He recalled Border Security Force journey since 1965. He said that BSF has successfully faced several challenges and crises over these years, and enjoys an excellent track record. He further stated that BSF is ready to face the challenges and is preparing itself in terms of doctrine, infrastructure, weaponry and training. He stated that BSF is carrying out relentless vigil along the borders. He reiterated BSF’s commitment in bringing peace in the Maoist’s infested areas where it is deployed. The Director General also spoke about the ‘Soldierly traits and Visionary leadership Skills’ of first Director General Shri K F Rustamji, who was always popularly referred to as “Founding Father of BSF”.

 

To Compliment Shri K F Rustamji legacy, an idea was mooted in year 2006 to conduct Rustamji memorial lecture every year on his birthday anniversary in which eminent personalities and visionaries would deliver a talk on varied issues concerning national Security and which have a direct or indirect bearing in BSF and its role. The first lecture was delivered by Shri K Subrahmanyam, the then NSA in 2006 and from then on it has been an annual affair.

 

The Investiture Ceremony 2014 was followed by ninth Rustamji Memorial Lecture , Which was delivered by Sh Nehchal Sandhu, Dy NSA. He spoke on the subject, ‘BSF – The Way Ahead’ Shri Sandhu, who is one of the leading strategic and prolific thinker gave straight forward views during the lecture. Shri Sandhu is a distinguished Police Officer. The talk ended with alively ‘Question-Answer’ Session.

This ceremony is traditionally celebrated by BSF on 22nd May every year  on the birth anniversary of Padma Vibushan Late Shri K F Rustamji, founding father of this Elite Force.

 

During this Investiture Ceremony, a book ‘Writings of a Rustam’ was released and a short documentary based film on ‘The Men Who Saved Kilapara’ was also screened.  On the Occasion of the Investiture Ceremony, BSF Salute all those heroes who sacrificed their valuable lives and also those heroes who are still in service as well as retired.
