Operation Protective Edge: Israel redeploying forces along the border with Gaza

| | | Share |

New Delhi, 4th August, 2014: Israel has authorized a humanitarian window to take place in the Gaza Strip from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM today. The IDF will continue to neutralize the Hamas tunnel network and will respond to any attempt to harm Israeli civilians or soldiers. But Hamas continues to fire at Israel constantly and has failed to honor 6 consecutive humanitarian ceasefires. Yesterday (3rd August), Israel uncovered a tunnel with three motorcycles and a large cache of weapons. Hamas was prepared to use this tunnel in order to carry out a terror attack inside Israel and return quickly to Gaza with hostages.

On Friday morning (1st August) at 08:00, Israel ceased fire in accordance with the 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire proposed by US Secretary of State Kerry and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. At approximately 09:30 - barely an hour-and-a-half after the internationally supported ceasefire began - Hamas terrorists emerged from a tunnel and attacked IDF soldiers. Two soldiers were killed and a third, Second Lt. Hadar Goldin was abducted and later declared dead based on forensic findings.

On Sunday (3rd August), IDF announced that it is redeploying forces along the border in accordance to operational needs, after completing its stated goal of dealing with terror tunnels.

During Operation Protective Edge, Hamas has used populated areas of Gaza to launch attacks against Israel. The terrorist organization has never stopped firing rockets from mosques, school, and other civilian areas.

Testimonies from Gaza and Hamas intimidation of foreign journalists

In spite of widespread intimidation and even forced censorship, some foreign correspondents reporting from Gaza have given eye-witness testimonies about Hamas' exploitation of Gaza civilian population as human shields. Journalists are repeatedly not allowed to report on the real story about Hamas and its terrorist activities in Gaza. Reporters are bullied, their equipment's are confiscated and are barred from sensitive sites. Recently, a Spanish journalist said that the real reason why television news does not broadcast images of Hamas fighters in action is because of fear of immediate execution. A Finnish TV reporter at Gaza's Al Shifa Hospital also confirmed that Hamas does fire rockets from the Hospital's parking lot. Hamas exploits their own people who do not follow their ideology. These testimonies shows how Hamas treat Palestinians, their own people.

Hamas official praises Palestinians for sacrificing themselves

Israel is doing everything it can to avoid civilian casualties and has made repeated efforts to de-escalate the situation, only to be met with aggression and terror from Hamas. Recently (1st August), Hamas official Ismail Radwan praised Palestinians in Gaza for sacrificing themselves. He congratulated them for "re-drawing the map of the homeland with your blood and body parts". He added,"Greetings to the Palestinian people who sacrifice women, children, elderly, mosques, houses & so on."

Since the start of Operation Protective Edge, at least 3,253 rockets have been fired at Israel from Gaza.

Israel continues to transfer goods to Palestinians in Gaza. More than 1552 trucks carrying fuels, food, medical & general supplies have crossed into Gaza, since the beginning of the Operation Protective Edge.
