DRDO Honours its Veteran Centenarian Scientist on Independence Day Eve

On the auspicious eve of our nation’s Independence Day, veteran scientist Shri Brij Lal Perti, a witness to the 2nd world war; struggle for India’s freedom; its Independence from colonial rule and India’s transformation into a robust republic, was honoured by DRDO fraternity among cheers pride, in a solemn ceremony organized at the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune. Shri Perti, who joined the elite club of Centenarians on 11 Aug, 2014, was presented a congratulatory message and a felicitation certificate from Dr Avinash Chander, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri, Secretary Dept. of Defence R&D and DG R&D, by Shri Anil M Datar,  Distinguished Scientist  & Director General (Armament & Combat Engineering cluster). Shri. Rohan Kulkarni of ARDE, the youngest Scientist among the Pune based DRDO labs presented a Memento to him.

 

Born on 11 Aug 1914 at Patiala in Punjab, Shri Brij Lal Perti, acquired Masters degree in Science from Allahabad University, joined in 1939, a Kanpur based defence laboratory (that came under DRDO in post independence era) and completed 33 years of dedicated service before his superannuation as Senior Scientific Officer- grade I in 1972.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Perti said, "There is no substitute for hard work. Be passionate and have a sense of commitment for your work. This is possible if you lead a disciplined life". He emphasized the importance of family in the growth of an individual and advised “Do not neglect your family as family is an important pillar of your Life”.

 

The Function was attended by Dr KM Rajan outstanding scientist and Director ARDE, Dr S Guruprasad outstanding scientist and Director RDE(E), Dr Bikas Bhattachyary, outstanding scientist and Director HEMRL Rear Admiral AS Sethi Director MILIT and by scientists and employees of Pune based DRDO Labs.

 

Felicitating Centenarian Mr B L Perti, DRDO salutes him and all those scientists and employees who have worked hard to transform DRDO (Defence Science Organisation till 1958) into a premiere defence R&D organisation, that has now placed India among top few nations of the world possessing capability to design, develop and produce its own strategic and tactical weapons and platforms. People who struggled against global control regimes and technology denials that forced technological isolation. Undeterred, taking along Indian industries, entrepreneurs  and academia, they generated knowledge and indigenous technologies. Inspired by their ‘never say die spirit’, DRDO moves on, on its path of making India stronger with defence technologies through science and innovations.
