Delhi, October 1, 2014: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Abiding by these golden words of Mahatma Gandhi, Navjyoti India Foundation has been working tirelessly for the last 26 years for bringing the changes and transformations in the lives of the less-fortunate beings. In tandem with its efforts, the organization is launching ‘Saakshar Gaaon Abhiyaan’ (literate villages and colonies movement) for North-west Delhi and rural areas of Gurgaon on October 1, 2014 in lieu of 145th Gandhi Jayanti.

Throwing light on the idea behind this movement, Dr Kiran Bedi explains, “Aim of this movement is to recast the focus on literacy of women, children, youth and other vulnerable sections of the society. Variety of teaching learning programs will be launched under this movement, which will catalyze the entire process. Only such sustained efforts can revolutionalize the Saakshar Gaaon movement. Quoting Father of the Nation here, I would re-emphasize that we must learn as if we were to live forever. There is absolutely no stopping to learning and growing.”

The event, organized in Ryan International School, Rohini, will witness the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti with key stakeholders in a synergistic manner. About 25 agents of change will be felicitated for their relentless and selfless community service by Dr Kiran Bedi. This will be followed by sharing of importance of the values of Mahatma Gandhi in today’s world by the beneficiaries of Navjyoti India Foundation. Cultural performances by the toddlers of Navjyoti’s remedial project will take the audience to the era of non-violence.

As Gandhiji said that leadership means getting along with people, the torch-bearers of Navjyoti will also present their vision of taking people along on this path of development. Gram Niketan (rural leadership) program will be announced to achieve Gandhiji’s vision of Gram Swaraj (village de-centralization).
