Birds of feather flock together!

Nature has a way of bringing like-minded peoples together. Humankind separated by vast distances have time and again developed affinities that their special circumstances demand. There are parameters by which such affinities can be gauged – language, culture, religion, geopolitical circumstances and the like. With different cultures and values and thinking, like-minded people or states tend to create affinities based on such circumstances. Common problems too tend to develop friendships and linkages as is the case with India and Israel.

Tibet - China's Achilles Heel?

A couple of weeks back on 10th March, 2012, all Tibetan brothers and sisters witnessed the 53rd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day and the fourth anniversary of the 2008 mass protests in Tibet.  It was not just a celebration but a strong rededication and commitment of each Tibetan for their motherland to save the rich art and culture of Tibet from the clutches of China and its present leadership. Not just present leadership.

People associated with the defence and security domain directly must be laughing after the announcement by our central government a few weeks back of the creation of another establishment to counter terrorism. It is so painful to have to see the non-serious approach of our government on countering terrorism in real terms.

Synergy

Lack of jointness among the family, team, society or in the defence forces may lead to defeat in any struggle we are confronted with. For success in the final outcome each individual has to join hands with others to strengthen the impact. This is a thumb rule and applies to every segment in every region, society, state or the armed forces. Our folk tale recalls the sage advice illustrated by a patriarch who explained to members of a family how unity makes for strength.

The Era of Limited Wars

This month’s theme “Limited Wars in South Asia: Against a Nuclear Backdrop” is by itself a controversial topic given that Pakistan believes it has shut any window of opportunity that may have existed for a conventionally stronger India to exploit by officially unveiling its “bomb-in-the-basement” programme in May, 1998 and threatening that its nukes will be used in a “First Strike” mode.
