Nestled deep within the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean lies Diego Garcia, a crescent-shaped coral atoll that forms part of the Chagos Archipelago. This isolated island, under British sovereignty but leased to the United States, has emerged as one of the most strategically significant military outposts in the world. Dubbed by many as the “unsinkable aircraft carrier,” Diego Garcia serves as a linchpin for power projection across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), with vital implications for operations spanning Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
