EAM S. Jaishankar at the Munich Security Conference

The 61st Munich Security Conference (MSC) is taking place from February 14 to 16, 2025, at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich. EAM S. Jaishankar participated in the panel discussions on democracy and India’s national security challenges.

EAM S. Jaishankar participated in a panel discussion on the topic 'Live to Vote Another Day: Fortifying Democratic Resilience.’ alongside US Senator Elissa Slotkin, Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski. He differed with the message that democracy is in trouble globally. He said “I am sorry; I have to differ with it. I mean, right now, we are living well. We are voting well. We are optimistic about the direction of our democracy, and for us, democracy is actually delivered."

He highlighted the success of India’s electoral process, referencing the Parliamentary elections 2024 and the recent elections in Delhi.

While discussing democracy in the Global South, S. Jaishankar asserted that India’s democratic experience is more relevant to many developing nations than Western models. He stressed that  “If the West wants democracy to prevail globally, it must also acknowledge and embrace successful democratic models outside its own sphere.”
