As the representative of His Majesty the King, Princess Astrid of Belgium is leading a delegation of more than 300 Belgian business leaders on an ‘economic mission’ to India from 1-8 March, 2025. The travel to Delhi and Mumbai intends to strengthen Belgium's image as an attractive partner and gateway to the European market.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said on 4th March. “Europe needs to develop its own ‘strategic autonomy’ with regard to the U.S. decision to change its course on the Ukraine war. Mr. Pevot, along with Theo Francken, Belgian Defence Minister said that India and Belgium will sign a MoU on defence cooperation by the end of 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Belgian Princess Astrid on 4th March, 2025. The discussions between PM Modi and Princess Astrid spanned a wide array of areas, including trade, investment, technology, defence, innovation, clean energy, infrastructure, agriculture, skilling, academic exchanges and cultural and people-to-people ties.

Both sides agreed to work closely to discover new pathways for cooperation across emerging and high-impact sectors, which would strengthen economic resilience, foster innovation-led growth and deepen bilateral cooperation to benefit the people of both countries.
Round-table discussion on strengthening the ties between Belgium and India in the area of defence took place on 4th March, 2025. The main goal of this conference was to explore new business opportunities that have arisen due to recent reforms in India's procurement policy and to increase the credibility and visibility of Belgian companies among Indian authorities and potential partners. The event aimed to encourage sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships in the defence sector.
The construction sector is also one of the priority sectors of this economic mission. A seminar on this topic examined the future market trends and business opportunities, contemporary practices and challenges. Belgian and Indian companies and organisations exchanged best practices and discussed existing technologies and innovations.
