In a major boost to India’s border infrastructure, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh today virtually dedicated 50 strategically vital projects to the nation during the 66th Raising Day celebrations of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The projects—30 bridges, 17 roads, and three other critical works—have been constructed at a combined cost of ₹1,879 crore and span across six border states and two Union Territories.
Addressing the BRO personnel and dignitaries via video conference from New Delhi, Shri Rajnath Singh hailed the BRO's tireless commitment to reinforcing India's territorial integrity and improving last-mile connectivity in the country’s most remote and challenging terrains.
“These projects are not merely physical structures; they are symbols of our national resolve,” said the Defence Minister. “They serve a dual purpose—enhancing our defence preparedness and accelerating socio-economic development in border regions.”
The infrastructure works are distributed across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram, West Bengal, and Rajasthan—regions that are crucial from both a strategic and developmental standpoint.
BRO’s efforts are seen as a cornerstone of India’s response to evolving security challenges along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and other sensitive sectors. The newly inaugurated projects include:
This infrastructure push aligns with the Government of India's larger vision of strengthening border connectivity through initiatives like Vibrant Villages Programme and PM Gati Shakti.
The Defence Minister also appreciated the BRO’s performance in harsh weather and rugged terrain, noting that many of the projects were completed ahead of schedule despite logistical difficulties. He reiterated the government’s unwavering support for the modernization and technological empowerment of the BRO.
Since its inception in 1960, the Border Roads Organisation has played a pivotal role in connecting remote regions, enabling faster military deployment and fostering inclusive development. The organisation is now evolving into a high-tech, mission-ready force with expanded roles in infrastructure diplomacy and strategic road development.
Today’s announcement reaffirms India’s commitment to protecting its frontiers while also uplifting its far-flung communities.
