Tahawwur Rana Extradition to India

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack plotter, has been extradited from the US to India. The terror attack mastermind, after getting arrested by the NIA from the Delhi Airport exit, will undergo a trial at a special NIA court in Delhi.

Tahawwur Rana’s extradition from the United States marks a crucial moment in the long-standing investigation into the worst terror attack on Indian soil. This is a testament to the success of India’s ideals of democracy and justice and ambitions of the Modi-Shah leadership in eradicating terror activities.

The extradition was eventually approved by US President Donald Trump as he hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the White House in February. Over the years, a quagmire of legal processes and review petitions held up Rana's extradition after the first chargesheet was filed against him in 2011. It took nearly 14 years and two regimes to get Tahawwur Rana on a 17-hour flight to India from the US to face trial.

A joint team of the National Investigation Agency and the Research and Analysis Wing is reportedly bringing back Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. A Delhi court has received the trial records of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks ahead of its alleged mastermind Rana's arrival in India from the US. The Centre has appointed a special public prosecutor, Narender Mann to conduct a trial in this case.
