Türkiye Acquires Italy’s Piaggio Aerospace

In January 2025, Turkish defence firm Baykar announced the acquisition of Italy’s Piaggio Aerospace. This strategic move aims to expand Baykar’s expertise in unmanned aerial systems and strengthen its production capacity. The contract was signed by Piaggio Aerospace’s extraordinary commissioners, Carmelo Cosentino, Vincenzo Nicastro, and Gianpaolo Davide Rossetti. The Baykar CEO Haluk Bayraktar signed for the Turkish group

The deal follows six years of Italian state management at Piaggio after it went into receivership in 2018. The acquisition highlights Türkiye's ambitions to diversify its defence industry partnerships and increase its influence in the global defence market.
