56th DG BSF and DG BGB held at Dhaka, Bangladesh from 25th to 28th August 2025

Border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh held Directors General level Coordination Conference w.e.f 25th to 28th August 2025 at Border Guard Bangladesh Headquarter, Pilkhana, Dhaka.

1. Border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh held Directors General level Coordination Conference w.e.f 25th to 28th August 2025 at Border Guard Bangladesh Headquarter, Pilkhana, Dhaka. The Indian delegation was headed by Shri Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Director General BSF and Bangladesh delegation was headed by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General, Border Guard Bangladesh. 

 

2. This highest level talks between Border Security Force India and Border Guard Bangladesh are held twice every year – once each in India and Bangladesh, which facilitates both the border guarding forces to establish robust systems through which co-operation in Border Guarding and Border Management is ensured. India and Bangladesh share a civilizational and cultural heritage. Last coordination conference between both the forces was held in New Delhi (India) from 17th to 20th February 2025.


3.Major agenda points from BSF were prevention against attack/assault/abuse/stone pelting on BSF personnel and Indian nationals by Bangladesh based criminals/miscreants, joint efforts to prevent trans-border crimes, action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) in Bangladesh, denial and delay in taking over apprehended illegal BD entrants by BGB, issues related to border infrastructure, construction of SRF, joint efforts for effective implementation of Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP), Confidence Building Measures (CBM) air violations (including drone intrusion), incorrect reporting/ misinterpretation of border issues by Bangladeshi media and other miscellaneous activities while the BGB agendas were prevention of trans-border crimes, border violation/illegal crossing/ intrusion into Bangladesh territory by BSF/Indian police/ Indian nationals, smugglers and miscreants, killing at border,  issues related to border infrastructure within 150 yards of IB, establishment of Effluent Treatment plant (ETP) for all 4 canals carrying waste water from Agartala to Akhaura, border demarcation, survey and construction of pillars, illegal construction work within 150 yards of IB by BSF and Indian nationals, river bank protection works and water sharing, location of camps and movement of armed miscreants inside India, effective implementation of CBMP, confidence building measures and other Misc activities.


4. With a view to maintain the highest level of cordial relation between both the nations, as envisaged by its present top leadership, following decisions were taken by both the D’sG after detailed  discussions on the agenda from both sides:

 

(a)  Both sides appreciated each others concerns and agreed to undertake joint efforts to curb trans-border crime by adopting extra precautionary measures such as increasing Coordinated Patrols, enhancing vigilance and sincere commitments. Both sides also agreed to undertake joint efforts to bring down the number of incidents of assault/border crime by intensifying public awareness program, undertaking appropriate socio-economic developmental programs in vulnerable areas, educating border population about the sanctity of IB and preventing criminals/inhabitants from crossing the IB.


(b)  Both sides highlighted the importance of Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) in curbing the menace of smuggling contrabands, such as, various narcotics (especially YABA), Firearms, FICN, gold etc, and agreed to remain cautious and steadfast to stop smuggling through sharing of real time information and active anti-smuggling efforts.

 

(c) Both sides agreed to take effective steps to continue to sensitize the border populace to refrain from Violation of IB/Illegal crossing/Intrusion, smuggling, human trafficking, uprooting Border Pillars and other trans-border crimes.

 

(d) Both sides mutually agreed to constructively engage the respective higher authorities for concurrence of the pending developmental work within 150 yards of IB. Both sides also agreed to facilitate river bank protection works along the common bordering rivers as approved by Joint River Commission based on mutual consensus and without unnecessary hindrance. BSF stressed upon the agenda for early construction of SRF, which does not have defence potential and it will be an important measure for curbing and preventing trans-border crimes. Both sides agreed to follow the laid down procedure while erecting Single Row Fence.


(e) In regards to trans-border insurgents groups/suspected camps both sides agreed to show zero tolerance towards any such groups/activities and take concurrent action in respective border, based on real time information.

 

 

5. Both sides expressed their satisfaction over the outcome of the conference and reiterated their commitments to work jointly for maintaining peace and tranquillity at the border. They provisionally agreed to hold the next DG level conference in New Delhi, India at a suitable time in the month of March 2026.
